OVERVIEW
The Overnight Animal Caretaker's chief responsibility is to provide for the health, care, and safety of the PAALS assistance dogs in training housed on-site and for the security and appearance of the property. Responsibilities will vary with current needs of staff, dogs, and the season of the year.
Responsibilities
To thoroughly clean and disinfect the dog housing areas of the facility during evening and early morning hours to ensure health of all puppies and dogs
To observe animal appearance and activity for heneral physical condition, obvious signs of illness, desease, unusual activity, and/or discontent and report information to trainers and the Executive Director
To exercise dogs as needed
To be prepared to handle emergency situations in the housing facility
To keep food prep area and storage areas clean and neat
Administer medications, heartworm, and flea/tick treatments as needed
To wash and dry towels and blankets
To wash and sterilize water and food bowls
To perform general cleaning as needed
To keep equipment and tools put away in proper storage areas

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional interpersonal skills and helpfule disposition
Ability to work independently, be flexible, and handle multiple tasks
Knowledge of common dog diseases, syptoms and means of transmission
Detail oriented
Physical effort: often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 pounds
Frequently required to handling of materials weighing up to 20 pounds
Handling dogs weighing up to 120 pounds
Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods, and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment
Knowledge of basic animal behavior
Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience
At least one year of animal care experience required

Monday - Friday 7pm-10pm & 5am-6am (must stay overnight at facility)
Plus must be available at least two weekends per month.
