What will the dog do for me?  To begin with, making friends is not easy for me and I have trouble talking to people. So, hopefully, when people see me with a dog, they will take the time to get to know me and I’ll be learning how to be more sociable. I get anxious a lot and the dog will help calm me down by hugging me. I’ll also learn how to take care of my dog by walking, feeding, even brushing her and that’ll help me learn to do the same things for myself. Mom and Dad told me that there has been research on the positive effects that service dogs are having on individuals with autism. Right now, my mom and my sister Emily are learning how to work with a service dog. We don’t know which dog we’ll get because they want to make sure that we get the best fit for me.
